Charities & Scholarships
Once a year our Council awards a scholarship to a college student and donates to a charity. If you wish to nominate a student or a charity please read the requirements listed below and then click on the icon which will take you to the correct form that you can print and submit to the Grand Knight.
Scholarship
All applicants must be
practical Catholics as understood by the Church.
1. Priority will be given to our
Knights of Columbus council members or their families.
2. Priority will be given to St
Monica’s parishioners.
3. Priority will be given to
members of other Knights of Columbus councils.
4. Priority will be given to other
Catholics with close relationship to the above 3 priorities.
Charity
Completed forms for charity recommendations may be submitted at any time by any council member. Forms must be received by Aug 31st for consideration that year.
A maximum of 2 charities per year may be selected for distribution of funds. The committee shall research and vote on their choice(s) for a designated charity to receive funds and report the results at the September general membership meeting.
Any charity may be recommended but those charities with IRS Section 501(c)(3) Public Charity classification, and branches in the Central Illinois area, should be given priority consideration throughout the selection
process.
Each nominated charity’s performance shall be reviewed and evaluated on the data presented on these unaffiliated charity watchdog websites, Charity Navigator (charitynavigator.org), Charity Watch (charitywatch.org), BBB, Wise Giving (www.give.org) and Guide Star (guidestar.org) or other similar sites.
The check(s) shall be ready for distribution to the designated charity(s) in October.
